Your transmission turns engine power into movement. Every gear change depends on clean fluid at the right level and pressure. Over time that fluid breaks down with heat, towing and stop-start driving. Worn fluid means harsher shifts, more wear and, eventually, a much bigger bill. A regular transmission service is one of the cheapest ways to protect one of the most expensive parts of your car. Whether you drive a conventional automatic, a CVT, a DSG or a manual, Portland Tyre and Auto can service it, diagnose it and repair it. 7 signs your transmission needs attention Slipping: the engine revs rise but the car doesn't speed up to match Harsh, late or delayed shifts: a thump into gear, or a pause before drive or reverse engages Shuddering or juddering: especially when taking off or at low speed, which is common with worn DSG clutches and CVTs Whining, humming or clunking noises: noise that changes with speed or gear Red or brown fluid under the car: transmission fluid leaks are usually red when fresh and darker as they age A burning smell: often overheated fluid, particularly after towing A warning light or limp mode: the car holds one gear to protect itself How much does a transmission service cost? The cost depends on your transmission type, how much fluid it takes, the fluid and filter your manufacturer specifies, and whether you need a drain and refill or a full exchange. Car Service and Mechanical Repairs in Portland

Your automatic transmission plays a vital role in transferring engine power to the wheels and delivering smooth, responsive gear changes. Regular auto transmission servicing can help maintain transmission performance, identify developing problems and reduce the risk of costly repairs. During an auto transmission service, the transmission can be checked for leaks, fluid condition and other signs of wear or problems. Maintaining the correct transmission fluid level and condition is important because the fluid helps lubricate and protect internal components while supporting smooth gear changes. Transmission problems can sometimes develop gradually. If you notice hard or delayed gear changes, unusual noises, slipping, shuddering, transmission fluid leaks or a warning light on the dashboard, it is worth having your vehicle inspected before a minor issue develops into a more expensive repair. At Portland Tyre and Auto, we can inspect your vehicle and advise whether it requires an auto transmission service, further diagnostics or transmission repairs. Where a transmission has suffered significant wear or damage, a transmission rebuild may be required to restore its operation. Don't wait for your transmission to stop working. If your automatic vehicle is behaving differently or you are due for transmission maintenance, contact Portland Tyre and Auto to arrange an auto transmission service or inspection today.
